From R&D collaboration to large-scale manufacturing, Yijing’s first strategic model has reached a pivotal milestone.

On July 20, the first mass‑produced Yijing X9 rolled off the assembly line in Chengdu. As Yijing Auto’s inaugural strategic model, the X9 is positioned as a “next‑generation family flagship.” This milestone marks a critical leap—from R&D and validation to large‑scale manufacturing—and signals the vehicle’s entry into the market‑launch and delivery phase. For a brand-new automaker, the rollout of the first production unit is more than just a manufacturing milestone; it serves as a comprehensive test of R&D collaboration, supply‑chain organization, manufacturing capabilities, and quality‑assurance systems. Co‑developed by Dongfeng and Huawei’s Qiankun full‑stack platform, the X9’s mass production further elevates the partnership between the two companies, moving their collaboration from the technology and product levels toward industrialization.
Cao Lijun, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee; Xu Xingguo, Vice Mayor of Chengdu; Yang Qing, Chairman and Party Secretary of Dongfeng Motor Corporation; Huang Yong, Deputy General Manager and Member of the Party Leadership Group of Dongfeng Motor Corporation; Chi Linchun, Vice President of Huawei’s Smart Car Solutions Business Unit; Wang Junjun, Chairman of Yijing Auto; Xia Peng, Director of Yijing Auto; Zeng Qinglin, General Manager of the Yijing brand; along with relevant leaders from Sichuan Province, Chengdu, Dongfeng, and Huawei, were present to witness the event.

Yijing Auto is a new brand co‑created by Dongfeng and Huawei, built on a full‑stack, natively integrated platform, and serves as an independent business unit within Dongfeng’s strategy to elevate its premium‑segment offerings. Leveraging the resources of Dongfeng’s Wuhan headquarters, the brand has established itself in Chengdu while expanding globally. With its first model now entering mass production, the collaboration between the two partners is undergoing a real‑world test of manufacturing consistency, quality stability, and delivery efficiency. For Chengdu, the launch of Yijing X9 into mass production offers a valuable case study: competition in the new‑energy vehicle sector is shifting from product‑level rivalry to a comprehensive contest encompassing R&D, manufacturing, supply‑chain management, and talent ecosystems. Meanwhile, Chengdu is accelerating efforts to become a national advanced manufacturing hub, driving the integrated development of vehicles, roads, and cloud technologies; the Yijing project further links complete‑vehicle manufacturing, intelligent technologies, and local industrial support systems.
Huang Yong, Deputy General Manager of Dongfeng Motor, stated that Dongfeng and Huawei are pooling their technologies, resources, and teams into Yijing to support the brand’s development. The mass‑production rollout of the Yijing X9 marks a milestone in public‑private collaboration and cross‑industry co‑creation; by addressing family users’ demands for safety, intelligence, and quality, the new vehicle will further demonstrate the two partners’ ability to translate collaborative innovation into tangible results. The Yijing Chengdu plant is positioned as both Yijing’s Southwest Intelligent Manufacturing Center and Huawei’s Qiankun Ecosystem Southwest Manufacturing Hub. Having completed upgrades to automation, digitalization, and flexibility, the facility integrates Dongfeng’s expertise in complete‑vehicle manufacturing with Huawei’s quality management system into its production processes.
On the production side, the stamping line features a fully enclosed design; the body-in-white shop deploys 452 robots, enabling automated and flexible manufacturing; the paint shop employs a 5C2B coating process with robotic spraying; and the final assembly line achieves 95% parts consolidation while leveraging automated tightening to balance assembly accuracy with scheduling flexibility. Compared with the abstract notion of “high-end intelligent manufacturing,” these concrete operational steps more directly determine whether a vehicle can be delivered reliably and in volume.
Quality control permeates both the production and validation phases. The plant has adopted Huawei’s IPD/IPMS management framework and deployed AI‑powered visual inspection systems at critical workstations to enable error‑proofing and defect detection. Before rolling off the line, each vehicle undergoes a rigorous 50‑kilometer road test, along with multi‑dimensional validations covering water‑immersion performance, abnormal noise testing, component aging assessments, and VOC‑emission control, thereby minimizing variability in mass production and ensuring delivery quality. The complete‑vehicle project is also expanding into the surrounding supply chain. To date, Yijing has catalyzed intelligent and digital transformation among 35 local suppliers and facilitated localized sourcing for its core partners. Meanwhile, a joint R&D team of over a thousand engineers from Dongfeng and Huawei maintains a permanent presence in Chengdu, fostering coordinated talent collaboration across R&D, procurement, sales, and service functions.
From a product‑positioning perspective, the Yijing X9 is aimed at family users. Unlike models that emphasize single‑point performance, family cars place greater emphasis on whether safety, interior space, comfort, and intelligent features can form a seamless, end‑to‑end experience in everyday driving scenarios—this is precisely the differentiating approach the Yijing X9 seeks to establish. In terms of safety, the Yijing X9 is equipped with the “Sky Dome Intelligent Shield” system, which encompasses six key dimensions: advanced driver assistance, active safety, passive safety, battery safety, rescue operations, and health protection, aiming to integrate accident prevention, collision mitigation, and post‑crash rescue into a cohesive whole. As Yijing Auto Chairman Wang Junjun has stated, “Safety is Yijing’s guiding principle and non‑negotiable baseline.”
In the realm of intelligent driving, the Yijing X9 comes standard across the entire lineup with Huawei’s Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS 5 and an 896-line dual‑path, image‑grade LiDAR. On July 2, during CCTV News’ special program “China’s New Leap in Automotive Technology,” the Yijing X9 underwent its first public real‑world test of Huawei’s Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS 5, successfully handling challenging scenarios such as intense glare, rain and fog, and nighttime obstacles. For family users, technical specifications ultimately come down to whether object recognition is accurate, decision‑making remains stable, and performance stays reliable under complex road conditions. As for the cabin, the new model will be among the first to feature Huawei’s HarmonySpace 6 cockpit, equipped with a pair of 17.2‑inch butterfly‑style dual screens, HUAWEI XSCENE in‑vehicle laser projection, the Xiaoyi intelligent assistant, and the in‑cabin AI multi‑modal perception system AMS. During this rollout event, the production‑ready interior was unveiled for the first time, with the cabin designed around multi‑person family travel, striking a balance between spaciousness, intuitive interaction, and premium comfort features.

Following the rollout of the first batch of production vehicles, the launch of the Yijing X9 has gained momentum. On July 25, the Yijing X-CLUB owner’s club will officially open and begin recruiting its inaugural cohort of founding members, with an initial limited edition of 1,000 spots. For Yijing, mass production is only the first step; once the vehicle moves from the factory to the market, the real question this joint venture between a state‑owned automotive giant and a technology company must answer is whether it can deliver on its promises of safety, intelligence, and an exceptional family‑oriented experience.
