Wuhan Economic Development Zone Expands the "Auto Valley" Territory

On March 5th, the main structure of the Wuhan base of the Zhongxin Aviation Power Battery and Energy Storage Battery Project, Wuhan's first large-scale new energy vehicle battery project, was topped out within the General Aviation Industrial Park of the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (ETDZ), 20 days ahead of schedule. The Zhongxin Aviation Wuhan base, with a total investment of 10 billion yuan and a planned production capacity of 20 GWh, will primarily serve the domestic and international new energy vehicle and energy storage markets, driving the establishment of upstream and downstream industry chain companies. Meanwhile, major projects with investments exceeding 10 billion yuan, such as the Lotus Wuhan Smart Factory and Xpeng Motors, are also moving forward at a rapid pace. "Projects like Xpeng Motors, Zhongxin Aviation, and Lantu Motors will pool innovative resources such as capital, technology, and talent, helping to enhance the next-generation automotive landscape of 'China Auto Valley,'" said Liu Ziqing, member of the Standing Committee of the Wuhan Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone Working Committee.

The Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone, home to 12 complete vehicle manufacturers and over 500 auto parts companies, has become one of the most concentrated regions in the domestic automotive industry. Facing the trend of electrification, intelligence, connectivity, and sharing, the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (ETDZ) is building a trillion-yuan automotive industry cluster and establishing a major automotive innovation corridor in the Auto Valley, with a focus on attracting and supporting the development and growth of the new energy vehicle industry.

Since April last year, the Wuhan ETDZ has hosted four new energy vehicle projects. Chen Xiang, Director of the Wuhan ETDZ Investment Promotion Bureau, explained that these four projects have a total investment exceeding 40 billion yuan and are expected to add 700,000 new energy vehicle production capacity. Combined with the existing new energy vehicle production capacity of Dongfeng Yunfeng, Lotus Automotive Wuhan Intelligent Manufacturing Base, and Dongfeng Passenger Vehicle, the Wuhan ETDZ is on track to reach a production capacity of one million new energy vehicles. On March 8th, equipment was being installed and debugged at the Lotus Intelligent Manufacturing Base in the Wuhan ETDZ's Automotive and Parts Industrial Park. Ma Sheng, Senior Director of Public Affairs at Lotus, stated that the base plans to roll off the production line for trial vehicles in the second quarter of this year, with official production to begin in the fourth quarter. Dongfeng Yunfeng, located in Junshan New City, is on the eve of mass production. As Dongfeng Motor Corporation's new-generation green, environmentally friendly, and smart factory, Dongfeng Yunfeng boasts flexible production capabilities for a variety of new energy vehicle models, including hybrid and pure electric vehicles. Upon reaching full capacity, its annual production capacity will reach 300,000 vehicles.

At the same time, power battery projects such as Yidong New Energy, with investments exceeding 10 billion yuan, have also settled in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone, fueling the new energy vehicle industry.
