Empowering rural revitalization through technology—leading research institutions and organizations must step up with greater responsibility and action. On June 30, the Rural Revitalization Research Institute of Chongqing Academy of Science and Technology was officially unveiled. As a key platform under the Chongqing Academy of Science and Technology dedicated to leveraging technology and intellectual support for rural development, the institute will fully integrate its existing resources—including cutting-edge technologies, talented professionals, and advanced platforms—to address critical technical challenges and meet the specific needs in priority areas of rural revitalization. The institute will kick off nearly 20 pilot assistance projects in its inaugural phase.

It is understood that in recent years, the Chongqing Institute of Science and Technology has fully implemented the municipal Party Committee and government's strategic plan to "win the battle against poverty," following the work arrangements of the Municipal Poverty Alleviation Office and the Municipal Science and Technology Poverty Alleviation Group. Focusing on science-and-technology-driven initiatives such as Sichuan pepper cultivation, edible mushroom farming, a targeted poverty alleviation e-commerce platform, mountainous rural water purification systems, and integrated intellectual and moral support programs for education, the institute has delivered comprehensive assistance through project implementation, technical services, industry development, and financial support. To date, it has allocated over 5 million yuan in poverty-relief funds, launched nine science-and-technology-based aid projects, established three rural industry demonstration bases, and supported 91 impoverished students, successfully completing the poverty alleviation mission in Longju Town, Wanzhou District.
After the tasks for this year's rural revitalization initiative were clearly defined, the Institute of Science and Technology immediately established a leading group for rural revitalization, with the top party and government leaders serving as its chairpersons. The key leaders promptly visited towns such as Henghe Township and Yu Jia Town in Wanzhou District to conduct on-site research, formulate an implementation plan for the institute’s science-and-technology-driven support of rural revitalization, and develop individual implementation strategies for eight affiliated institutes. Additionally, the institute dispatched seven first secretaries stationed in villages, and has preliminarily planned nearly 20 collaborative projects aimed at providing targeted assistance.
At the founding ceremony, the institute appointed seven renowned local experts—Professor Shi Xiaohui from Chongqing University of Technology, Professor Xie Shouyong from Southwest University, Professor Fan Bin from Chongqing Normal University, Professor Wang Xinmin from Chongqing University of Commerce, and Associate Professor Lü Changwen from Southwest University—as its inaugural group of experts, providing high-level intellectual support.
He Ping, Secretary of the Party Committee at the Chongqing Academy of Sciences, stated that the Institute for Rural Revitalization serves as a vital platform for the academy to leverage science and technology and provide intellectual support in driving rural development. The institute aims to become a key scientific and technological force underpinning Chongqing's rural revitalization strategy. Following its establishment, the institute will fully integrate existing resources—including cutting-edge technologies, talented professionals, and advanced platforms—to address critical technical challenges and meet specific needs in priority areas of rural development. This includes tasks such as formulating rural revitalization plans, optimizing the cultivation of specialty crops, ensuring agricultural product safety through rigorous testing, developing e-commerce platforms for agricultural goods, and improving access to safe drinking water in rural regions. Additionally, the institute plans to launch and implement a series of innovative projects, including deep processing of gardenia fruits, cultivating rare medicinal and edible fungi, enhancing rural living environments, and promoting scenario-based smart reading initiatives in small and medium-sized rural schools— all of which are designed to fuel the robust growth of Chongqing’s rural revitalization efforts.
It has been revealed that the institute will actively collaborate with various districts and counties to jointly establish branch institutes focused on rural revitalization in key townships, ensuring that all initiatives can be swiftly and effectively implemented. Currently, plans are underway to officially launch the first branch institute soon in Henghe Township, Wanzhou District.
