The first 160 km/h in-line maglev transportation system debuts in Chengdu.

China News Service, Chengdu, April 22 – The inaugural Chengdu International Industrial Expo (hereinafter referred to as Chengdu InduExpo) kicked off today in Chengdu. On the same day, Chengdu Xinzhu Road & Bridge Machinery Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Xinzhu Shares) officially unveiled its first embedded maglev transportation system capable of reaching speeds up to 160 km/h. As China’s large and medium-sized cities continue to expand, the demand for rail transit is growing steadily. With its unique systemic advantages, the medium- and low-speed maglev technology is poised to become a safer, greener, more efficient, and cost-effective solution for broad-based public transportation needs.

New Building Corporation's embedded maglev transportation system is a flagship project representing Chengdu's collaboration between industry and cutting-edge international technology. New Building Corporation has constructed a 3.6-kilometer medium-to-low-speed maglev simulation commercial operation test line in Xinjin, Chengdu. The train can reach a top operational speed of 169 kilometers per hour, perfectly meeting the transportation needs of urban and regional areas. This system boasts superior performance metrics—such as maximum speed, acceleration capability, climbing ability, and turning radius—while also offering cost advantages, reducing construction, operation, and maintenance expenses by more than 30% compared to other urban rail transit systems.
According to introductions, as a national high-tech enterprise and the leading company in Chengdu and Sichuan Province's rail transit industry, New Building Shares has established 11 national, provincial, and municipal-level technology platforms, including the "National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Intelligent Integrated Transportation" and the "Academician (Expert) Innovation Workstation." The company has either led or participated in the development of 25 national, industry, and local standards, and currently holds over 365 patented technologies. New Building Shares boasts an industry-leading rail transit production base located in Chengdu, which is home to China's first complete vehicle manufacturing facility dedicated to urban rail transit in western China. Notably, all subway vehicles for Chengdu’s Lines 3, 4, 5, 8, and 9, as well as every single tramcar produced in the city, are manufactured at this state-of-the-art facility.

China, as the country with the longest commercially operated maglev lines and the most comprehensive range of maglev technologies, has already completed the Shanghai Pudong Airport Maglev, as well as the Changsha and Beijing medium- and low-speed maglev commercial lines. Currently under construction are the Guangdong Qingyuan Maglev Tourism Line and the Hunan Fenghuang Maglev Line, while preliminary work on maglev transportation projects has already been initiated in provinces such as Sichuan, Shanxi, Shandong, Anhui, and Xinjiang. "Operational experience has proven that maglev transportation is a revolutionary mode of transit—more safe, reliable, resilient to harsh weather conditions, quieter, greener, more cost-effective, and highly intelligent," stated Jian Lian, Chief Engineer at Chengdu Xinzhu Road & Bridge Machinery Co., Ltd., during the company’s recent launch event for its embedded maglev system. "Maglev technology can serve as a cornerstone for new infrastructure initiatives like cloud computing, paving the way for the future development of smart rail transit industries."
China's maglev transportation technology has achieved independent control and self-reliance. According to Jian Lian, maglev transportation represents the essence of simplicity—combining advanced technology with straightforward principles. It utilizes an automatically controlled electromagnetic field for levitation and support, along with linear motor propulsion, effectively replacing the wheel-rail contact-based support and motion systems of conventional rail transport. This innovative approach eliminates mechanical components such as wheels, axles, gearboxes, and bearings, significantly reducing the need for specialized steel materials traditionally used in these parts. At the heart of maglev technology lies the critical core technology of suspension control, which China has successfully developed entirely on its own. This is now a mature, reliable, and domestically produced solution. Moreover, all other technologies employed in maglev systems are well-established, ensuring that their supply chains remain stable and unaffected by global environmental changes.

According to Jian Lian's introduction, the revolutionary aspect of maglev transportation lies in the seamless integration of the train and its track—allowing the train to "fly" non-contactly along the rail. This unique design ensures that train operations remain unaffected by harsh weather conditions, enabling uninterrupted service even in extreme environments such as Level 8 typhoons, ice, snow, rain, or lightning strikes. Additionally, it significantly reduces vibrations and noise during operation, eliminates the risk of derailment or overturning, and ultimately lowers the overall lifecycle costs. Addressing new challenges emerging in the development of existing urban rail transit systems—such as the need to cut down both investment and long-term operational expenses, enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness, and minimize the impact of vibration and noise—Jian Lian stated, "Maglev transportation perfectly meets the demands for high-quality development in urban mobility."
Xinzhu Corporation's maglev transportation system is a smart maglev transit solution—a cutting-edge, passenger-oriented mobile platform integrating innovative communication and internet technologies. With its distinct technological advantages, it not only helps maximize revenue growth while minimizing costs but also fosters the sustainable development of rail transit, supports new urbanization initiatives, and ultimately contributes to the creation of new momentum for national economic growth.
