Nissan unveils lunar rover prototype, featuring the same dual-motor all-wheel-control technology as the Ariya.

On December 2, Nissan officially announced that the company has unveiled, for the first time, a lunar rover prototype jointly developed with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

Nissan stated that the company has leveraged electric vehicle technologies originally developed for the consumer market in its lunar rover development, such as the motor control technology from the Nissan LEAF, as well as Nissan’s innovative e-4ORCE dual-motor all-wheel control technology featured in the all-electric crossover model, the Nissan Ariya. Notably, the Nissan e-4ORCE dual-motor all-wheel system enhances the lunar rover’s mobility performance on the Moon’s challenging and rugged terrain.
Nissan says that, through its collaboration with JAXA, the company has continuously refined its e-4ORCE dual-motor all-wheel-drive technology to enhance vehicle performance on sandy terrain and other challenging road conditions. When driving on sand, vehicles often experience wheel slippage or become stuck in the loose gravel, making it difficult to move forward. To prevent such situations and ensure smooth progress, drivers typically need advanced driving skills. In response, Nissan has developed an advanced drive control system that dynamically adjusts to varying road conditions, minimizing wheel slippage and helping the vehicle maintain traction at all times.
