Integrating New Media Thinking into Project Management—Reflections on Attending the Group’s Corporate Communications Training

Integrate new media thinking into project management.
— Inspired by attending the group's corporate publicity training
At 1:30 PM on March 12, 2021, Shanghai ADT Facilities Management Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Dongchang Group, had the honor of participating in a training session on "Corporate Promotion in the New Media Environment" hosted by the Group Development Research Institute.
Mr. Chen from the Group Development Research Institute provided detailed guidance to participants on three key areas: how to conduct corporate promotion in the new media environment, how to write a good "basic" press release, and how to select and source corporate news materials. The training session was highly necessary and served as a reminder for company managers to rethink how they will conduct corporate promotion in the future.
In today's society, the era of portal websites has passed, and the era of live streaming and short videos has arrived. Considering ADT's business, geographic location, and employee characteristics, the company's employees perform demanding tasks, have short work hours, and are generally older. How can we effectively disseminate safety requirements and operating procedures on project sites to all employees? Will incorporating contemporary elements and new media thinking improve the timeliness of project management? With this question in mind, at a recent project management experience sharing session, the management initiatives of the FAW-Volkswagen Tianjin Plant Project Department highlighted a management highlight for company executives. The project department, having earned a strong reputation among clients through nearly four years of operations and maintenance, sought to showcase the company's professionalism and positive image through videos. Consequently, Project Department Manager Lu Dengxiang established a public account (T90A95) for the project on the Douyin platform. Working collaboratively, they developed a 21-year plan for short video production. The completed and uploaded short video on "P-Class Confined Space Operation Procedures" has been approved by the head of security at the client's Changchun headquarters. The client requested that the Tianjin Security Department, in collaboration with ADT, film a short video on "Height Work Procedures and Precautions," which was reviewed and uploaded on April 20th.

Project Manager Lu led the team in uploading the short videos they filmed to the project's official WeChat account for easy access by employees. After a period of implementation, they found that the short videos provided a more intuitive understanding of operations, significantly improving employee comprehension and enabling them to quickly grasp key operational points.
ADT is always on the move, keeping pace with the times and incorporating new media thinking into project management.
