If thick smoke fills a hallway or staircase, cover your mouth and nose with your arms and bend over as much as possible to escape unless you have a wet towel. If a hallway is blocked, remain calm and, depending on the situation, move to another safe location. If necessary, use a blanket or towel to extinguish the fire.
